90 Stanton Street Art Show
We first met "post-graffiti" artist Fumero at the Factory Fresh block party in Bushwick a little over a year ago, and we've been steadily watching him make the jump from street artist to gallery artist in impressive fashion. Last night he and Joseph Meloy, another fresh face in the art world, had a joint show at 90 Stanton St, beauty parlor by day, gallery by night. With lots of foot traffic on the busy stretch of Stanton and lots of Trader Joe's "plonk," the opening reception was a huge success, with lots of street art luminaries dropping in to offer congratulations.
Now if only we had a few more zeroes in the ol' bank account, we'd definitely be acquiring something for the "gallery" also known as "our living room." Fumero's "Table Series" is a stunning body of work, focusing on the universal theme of family around a table, with hyperactive colors and caricature like lines, it's familiar and unfamiliar at the same time. While Joseph Meloy's calls his work "Vandal Expressionism" and there is a satisfying and humorous quality to his densely layered shapes and gritty use of color. Drop by the Salon d'Art and check it out for yourself!
