When dining trends collide: tacos and cook-offs! Battling it out for Numero Uno.
What happens when two huge dining trends collide? Welcome to the Brooklyn Taco Experiment cook-off, held Sunday night at The Bell House. In case you haven't noticed, New Yorkers have gone crazy for Cali-style tacos as of late, and cook-off competitions are more popular than skinny jeans in Brooklyn these days. You know the drill: A bunch of amateur cooks brought their A-game, doing their best work with tortillas (provided by Brooklyn's Tortilleria Chinantla) and assorted fillings, while the public chowed down. When all was said and done, the attendees (like Food Network star Anne Burrell) and the celeb judge panel (including well-coiffed Andrew Knowlton of Food & Wine and "Iron Chef" fame) crowned the borough’s taco champ: The judges' top prize went to Andrey Ayrapetov, while the People's Choice Award went to John Schnapp.
