Cookie Takedown 2011
On Sunday afternoon dessert fiends took to the Bell House for the holiday-themed Cookie Takedown, hosted by Matt Timms of the famed Takedowns. Cookie lovers were treated to free Bulleit Bourbon eggnog as they stuffed their plates in search of the tastiest holiday cookie. Thirty local amateurs competed for the prize of best cookie, and there were plenty of ad hoc categories to highlight the effort of some of the more eccentric creations.
Such honorary awards included “best not a cookie” for the Oooey Goodie nutty chews, “best execution” for the Dutch Orange bites and “best spin on a classic” for the ginger bread shortbread cookies. The ravenous crowd also chose their favorites, with the Chocolate Salty Cara-Mal-Lard Cookies by the Girl in the Little Red Kitchen selected as the reigning champion. The official takedown judges seemed to love the boozier cookie concoctions, with the chocolate cake and café bourbon cookies hitting the spot. The official winner of the big bake-off was Little Miss Becky’s Sweet Salty Samoas, which were also our personal favorite. Winners made off with some special weapons to aid in the kitchen: cookie racks, spatulas and more bourbon to round out the sugar high.
