Fifth Annual Broadway Beauty Pageant | Symphony Space
Last night some of the brightest and most beautiful of Broadway's "chorus boys" strutted their stuff for a good cause at the 5th Annual Broadway Beauty Pageant at Symphony Space. There was plenty of glam and glitz and showbiz at the fundraiser benefiting the Ali Forney Center, which provides a much needed place for homeless LGBT teens to receive shelter and counseling and community. The pageant featured cast members from "Spider-man," "Anything Goes," "Mary Poppins," "La Cage aux Folles" and "Chicago," who competed in three heats: talent, interview and swimwear.
Hosted by Tovah Feldshuh and judged by the increasingly tipsy trio of Rachel Dratch, Carson Kressley and Bruce Vilanch, the evening was filled with hilarity that's most easily summarized by "you had to be there." As one would expect from anyone treading the boards on the Great White Way, the contestants were overwhelmingly talented in the talent department. Taking home the title of this year's Mr. Broadway was Michael Cusumano ("Mr. Chicago") whose presentation was a brilliantly comedic, tongue-in-cheek "Black Swan" performed by Cusumano's point-shoed alter ego Olga Vaginaskova, who showed off his ABT training and a biting sense of humor.
