Lightsaber Battle 2011
This weekend the world's nerdiest flashmob returned to Washington Square Park. A few dozen scifi enthusiasts led by the crew from Newmindspace, packed up their collapsible lightsabers and came out to do battle at this year's Lightsaber Battle. There were demonstrations of proper lightsaber technique from what looked to be the closest thing we have to Sith Lords on Earth, there were a few lost zombies (with lightsabers), a very aggressive Pikachu and other motley assorted characters, and a handful of bewildered NYPD officers. Mostly people came out to hit each other with plastic sticks that light up. We're with Han Solo on this one, “Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster by your side, kid.”
