This year I "only" took about 200 photos, I also shot several short videos which I strung together and posted on YouTube www.flickr.com/photos/5...

Sequins! Shells! Sea Maidens! Scenes from Coney Island's annual fest.
As Coney Island's legacy of weird and wonderful freak shows increasingly diminishes (you can't even Shoot the Freak anymore!) and corporate interests take a greater stronghold on the Boardwalk, one thing is sure to remain the same with an annual celebration of the weirdest Coney Island and its fans have to offer with the Mermaid Parade.
This weekend the sea creatures crawled out of the Atlantic, grabbed some cocktails and marched along Surf Ave dressed in as little clothing—but as shiny—as possible. There were mermaids and mermen, a couple of octopus, more than a few jelly fish, a handful of pirates and a lot of sexy sailors. Metromix hooked up with the Kostume Kult for a few blocks and then caught up with our favorite swing dancers, The Brooklyn Bombshells as they finished up the parade route on the Boardwalk with a little swing.
