Celebrating Michigan state pride with pasties, Coney dogs and Vernors
The Bell House has started throwing a monthly "state fair"—in which food stuffs, beverages and loads of state pride is celebrated on a given Sunday. Up this month was the Wolverine State (Michiganders never call it the Mitten State, FYI). As attendees answered Michigan-related trivia, a DJ spun Motown hits and a young crowd ate Coney dogs (don't ask), pasties (a regional favaorite that resembles a Hot Pocket) and beer from Battle Creek brewery Arcadia. But the big highlight was Vernors, a ginger ale-like soda found only in the Great Lakes region. Props to the Bell House for getting a hold of some cases. Mixes well with whiskey, indeed.
