The Loser Lounge brings neon, pogo dancing and tons of '80s tunes to Lincoln Center
Lincoln Center Out of Doors kicked off this season's Midsummer Night Swing earlier this summer and Metromix finally dropped in to check out the scene at one of our favorite New York warm weather institutions. The Losers Lounge, headed by downtown musical madman Joe McGinty hit the stage with an '80s night—they dubbed "No Parking on the Dancefloor," with original MTV VJ Mark Goodman spinning during the breaks. There were plenty of neon colors, pogo dancing and Molly Ringwald moves on the dancefloor.
Midsummer Night Swing is for everyone, youngsters, oldsters and lots of people even brought their dogs, and it's a series that reminds why we love living in New York and the people with whom we share the city. As bad as things can be, some things will always be joyful. It never matters how hot it is, or how sweaty everyone gets, people arrive at Damrosch Park ready to bust-a-move with as much—or as little!—rhythm as they've got. Put on your dancing shoes and head out to the next one, or the one after that . . .
