Disco DJ Andy Butler (pictured) and soulful warbler Antony Hegarty (of Antony and the Johnsons) began informally collaborating over five years ago as Hercules and Love Affair. Since then, Butler hooked up with DFA Records—home of LCD Soundsystem—while Antony has become a MercuryPrize winner and guest vocalist du jour. Butler’s self-titled debut as Hercules and Love Affair, featuring a heavy dose of his old pal on vocals, has won fans overseas and continues to convince us that disco is NOT the music of our lame older relatives.
