Pride Goes East
This weekend the Lower East Side kicked off Gay Pride Month with Pride Goes East, a block party on Orchard Street. The community flocked to the block to celebrate and support and party the afternoon away, which all led up to the grand finale double whammy with a headlining performance from Sir Ari Gold and a Gogo Gaga lookalike contest, and all hosted by Lady Honey Cloverfield, the tongue-tied drag queen.
There was dancing and voguing in the streets, as people munched on free snacks and posed for photos. The little bit of afternoon drizzle couldn't stop the spirit of Gaga—one of the LES's most famous former residents—from rising up and taking over the "dead on" Gaga impersonators sashaying their way across the stage.
There was a hilarious Lord Gaga and a Little Googoo, but it was raven-tressed performer, Melissa who won the hearts of the judges and the crowd, taking the prize. All proceeds raised went to benefit the Imperial Court of New York, which raises funds for LBGT charities throughout New York.
