Curing that wedding fever with early morning tea, fish and chips...and Pimms Cups!
Wills and Kate fever hit Greenwich Avenue on Friday with a block party hosted by Nikky Perry and Sean Kavanagh-Dowsett of the Tea & Sympathy empire, and Penny Bradley and Francois Latapie of Lyon. And according to Kavanagh-Dowsett, this may have marked the first time the British and French have worked this well together since 1945!
Lyon ditched its exquisite Lyonnaise cuisine for the morning and prepared a big English fry-up for guests who came to watch the wedding on big screens set up all over the restaurant, served alongside early morning Pimms Cups (it's noon somewhere in the world!). While on the block, the two hosts ruled Brittania as a Pearly King and a glamorous Union Jack, until Tea & Sympathy opened its doors to serve some proper tea with proper scones. And a bit later in the day, A Salt and Battery turned on the fryer and churned out not only their signature fish and chips, but deep-fried wedding cake to mark the occasion.
Glenn Tilbrook from the band Squeeze popped by for some breakfast and a quick song he made up about the new couple, performing impromptu on the street busker-style. He was back later to play a longer set in the afternoon as the block party continued into the late afternoon. But after seeing "The Kiss" three times, we were a bit maxed out from our morning of living on Greenwich Mean Time. Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge!
