The Best Wings in Brooklyn Competition
Over the weekend the Red Star Bar in Brooklyn hosted the Third Annual Best Wings in Brooklyn Competition, and as we wiped the buffalo sauce off our faces and fingers we remembered that this is one of our favorite annual events at Metromix. And the word is out! Nearly 2,000 wing enthusiasts lined up in Saturday's "windpocalypse"—some of them for 3 hours or more—for a chance to sample and vote for Brooklyn's Best Wing.
Always a favorite, 2010's winners, Super Wings from Crown Heights came back to win this year's judge's title. The Caribbean eatery brought their crowd-pleasing Ginger Buff wings with them to the competition and won over stomachs throughout the bar. Audience choice went to the afternoon's hosts, Red Star Bar's raspberry BBQ wings. We thought for sure that last year's winners, Life Cafe in Brooklyn, were a shoo-in with their super saucy, juicy wings. And the Ultimate Wingman, Ryan Hohman, professed his consistent love for Bonnie's Grill in Park Slope, "They're everything a wing should be! Plus they have giant wet naps." Our hats go off to the other competitors in the fray, including Mulholland's, Rocky Sullivan's, the Lone Star Bar, Brooklyn Wings and Bean Post Bayou.
