The Lono Lounge Tiki Bar at the Astor Room
Situated in a cozy, luxe basement, in the former Kaufman Studios commissary, The Astor Room has been quietly celebrating New York's cinematic past since it opened in February, but throw in some tropical tiki and suddenly everyone wants to go. Queens dwellers rejoice, there's a place in the neighborhood—that isn't Pizzeria Uno—to put on your fancy pants and enjoy a sophisticated dinner paired with a classic cocktail.
Go on a Tuesday night, and pass through the beaded curtains, and that cocktail could be a Planter's Punch or a Navy Grog served in kitschy tiki cups with a lei, and enjoy your rum combos with entertainment from the likes of the Fisherman's Tiki Trio, and the hula and limbo stylings of such exotic babes as Miss Ekaterina and Bunny Love.
First this outer-borough scored with the Signal to Noise party next door at the Museum of the Moving Image, then came The Palms, and now there's The Astor Room. When did Queens get so party chic?
