Major League Dreidel
Last night was an intense evening of Major League Dreidel spinning by Jews and Gentiles alike, as the crowd at the Knitting Factory gathered around "Spinagogues" to try their hand at spinning the dreidel the longest and hardest, and Metromix had a front row seat on the action.
In a dramatic upset late in the competition, world record dreidel spinner and last night's MLD number one seed, Pamskee, was defeated in the quarter finals by Juspin Bieber from Ypsilanti, MI (who flew in specially for the game). Juspin Bieber went on to take last night's prize, and was crowned the Major League Dreidel Champion for 2010, after a best of five final round where he faced NYC favorite, Spindiana Jones. Sorry Spindy, maybe next year. In a heated contest, fueled by $4 specials on He-Brew (nothing else but the Chosen Beer is good enough for a dreidel spinning contest!), MLD spinners and the people who love them (many moms and dads in the crowd) showed what they were made of. Music provided by Jewish heavy metal super group, Gods of Fire, who brought new meaning to Hanukkah anthems, with assists from the Young New Yorker's Chorus and Category Sixx (the world's greatest air band).
