I hate to sound like a curmudgeon, but life was so much easier in the '90s, at least in terms of television. In 1999, The Sopranos premiered. Suddenly, the Sunday night appointment schedule shifted from The X-Files (which had just began its decline) to HBO. Basically, what happened was my group of friends took the time and energy invested in one show and transferred it to another.
