Soundgarden's Live to Rise, the legendary Seattle band's first new song in 15 years, will be the end credit track on The Avengers, Joss Whedon's highly anticipated summer movie based on the Marvel Comics superheroes.
The song will appear on Avengers Assemble, a compilation of tunes inspired by the film. It's out May 1, along with The Avengers soundtrack containing Alan Silvestri's score.
Best known for such '90s rock hits as Black Hole Sun, My Wave, Spoonman and Blow Up the Outside World, Soundgarden has sold 21 million records worldwide. Since reuniting in 2010, the Grammy-winning group has released its first retrospective, Telephantasm, and first live album, Live on the I-5. A new studio album is due by year's end.
The Avengers, based on a comic series first published in 1963, stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Tom Hiddleston. Stellan Skarsgard and Samuel L. Jackson portray Nick Fury.
