9. "The Brothers Grimm" (2005)

The movie is kind of a mess (visionary director Terry Gilliam has never been noted for his narrative coherence) but it's also a prime example of how much Ledger could bring to material that gave him so little. While perfectly capable co-star Matt Damon flounders with a hideous wig and awkward accent, Ledger steals the show as a brainy bundle of nerves who ultimately faces off with a beautifully wicked fairy tale queen (Monica Bellucci).
