"Chasing Amy" (1997)

The “Jaws” shout-out: One of Smith’s more mature efforts includes a memorably candid onscreen discussion in which a comic-book artist (Jason Lee) and a lesbian friend (Joey Lauren Adams) compare self-described “permanent injuries” resulting from performing oral sex on female partners. It’s an intentional homage to the bit in “Jaws” where the three male leads compare wounds sustained in the line of duty. We're still waiting for Steven Spielberg to return the compliment.
