Discover the state of MTV’s cult comedy cast
By Drew Tewksbury, Special to Metromix
Believe it or not, MTV used to produce edgy programming. Before the cavalcade of (fake) reality shows like “The Hills,” there was “Beavis and Butthead,” Matt Pinfield, and “Aeon Flux.” Many of MTV’s biggest risk-takers went on to relative obscurity, but the bizarrely hilarious sketch-comedy show “The State” unleashed a multitude of major talents.
Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant, two of the weirdoes responsible for sketches including Porcupine Racetrack, the Inbred Brothers, and Taco Delivery, are also writers and producers of the major summer sequel “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian,” opening May 22. Before the long-awaited release of “The State” DVD, due July 14, we check in with the other people who made “The State” great.
