In Padua, Italy, during the 1970s, teenager Massimo Carlotto (Daniele Liotti) stumbles upon the aftermath of a woman's murder. Panicked, he runs away, and when he reports the crime to the police, he's accused of her death. Escaping prison, he lives on the run, spending years in foreign countries, unable to return to his doting mother (Francesca De Sapio) and father (Roberto Citran), who, with the help of an understanding lawyer (Alessandro Benvenuti), continue to plead his case.
