'Elite Squad'
Brazil is often presented as the more multicultural and tolerant version of the United States, which might help explain while films about its searing class divide have proved so popular here. Jose Padilha, who directed the documentary “Bus 174,” makes his feature debut with a film that focuses on both the slums of Rio de Janiero and the special police who protect the area. With a script by Bráulio Mantovani, an Academy Award nominee for his "City of God" screenplay, the film is sure to be a festival and theatrical hit.
