'Katyń'

Directed by famed Polish director Andrzej Wajda, 'Katyn' is the first film to address the horrific Katyń forest massacres, in which more than 15,000 Polish citizens, including many of the country’s intelligentsia, were killed by the Soviet Army on March 5, 1940. The Russians claimed that the killings were orchestrated by Nazi Germany, a cover-up that they only acknowledged in 1990. Wajda, whose father was one of the victims of the massacre, does more than just recount the incident in gripping detail. Rather, he suggests that it is as difficult to remember the past as it is to forget it.
