The downtown fest goes green—'Shrek' green! Here's what to watch from April 21 to May 2.
Now entering its ninth year, the Tribeca Film Festival returns to the movie screens, streets and parks of Tribeca from April 21 through May 2, kicking off the 2010 festivities with the world premiere of “Shrek Forever After” on Wednesday, April 21.
This isn’t the first year that the festival has pegged big-league Hollywood blockbusters for its key programming slots. Last year, it opened with Woody Allen’s “Whatever Works.” In past years, the fest touted such hits as “Mission: Impossible III,” “Spider-Man 3” and “United 93.” And with this year's “Shrek Forever After,” the fest has clearly opted for a more family-friendly title to lead the pack.
But that’s hardly the biggest change to this year’s festival. Tribeca’s reach now goes farther than ever with an array of digital-only events—a number of “virtual festival passes” went on sale April 13—as well as numerous video-on-demand titles that are now available to cable subscribers nationwide,.
