1928/1929 - 'The Broadway Melody.' Bessie Love and Charles King star in the musical with a showbiz backdrop that was the first sound film to win best picture. George M. Cohen's 'Give My Regards' to Broadway is heard on the soundtrack, but an original number written for the film, 'You Were Meant for Me,' also became a classic.
