1961 - 'West Side Story.' Rita Moreno, foreground, won the Oscar for best supporting actress for this musical about doomed young lovers. The soundtrack has an abundance of riches: 'Tonight, America,' and 'I Feel Pretty.' But the most haunting melody goes to 'Maria,' which makes a cameo during the dance competition that ends a non-musical up for best picture this year, 'Silver Linings Playbook.'
