Fresh from refurbishment and ready to delight visitors, the Enamels Room at the Frick Collection features over twenty-five exquisite objects—enamels, bronzes, and clocks—as well as Renaissance paintings. Housed in the former mansion of Henry Clay Frick (1849-1919), one of America’s greatest art collectors, the Enamels Room reflects Frick’s deep interest in Renaissance decorative arts such as Limoges, and ceramics including eighteen-century Sevres and Chinese porcelain.
For the first time, visitors can view the beautiful maiolica dish “The Judgment of Paris,” (1565) after Raphael, from the famous Fontana workshop. Once part of Adolphe de Rothschild’s collection, the dish is a recent gift and a prized addition to the Enamels Room. Considered a luxury by Renaissance well-to-dos, maiolica refers to tin-glazed earthenware produced by Italy during the sixteenth century. Maiolica objects are revered for their originality and degree of decoration. For more information visit www.frick.org
