A few weeks ago, Alice Cooper said he couldn't wait to "kill" the Bonnaroo audience. He did just that during his early Sunday morning set, bringing the classic horror elements of an Alice Cooper show and adding a few twists along the way.
He began just minutes after midnight, appearing high on a gallows-like platform, singing The Black Widow while wearing a costume and six extra legs and shooting sparklers from his hands.
Cooper's set looked like an amusement park's haunted-house ride, with corpse dummies and piles of blood-flecked props that the singer dipped into for songs like Only Women Bleed and Cold Ethyl.
Cooper's set went heavy on hits like Eighteen, No More Mr. Nice Guy and Billion Dollar Babies, but also got into deep catalog with Hey Stoopid, from his 1991 album of the same name, and Wicked Young Man from 2000's Brutal Planet.
Cooper also played a couple songs from last year's Welcome 2 My Nightmare. Before the first of those, he donned a jacket emblazoned with the words NEW SONG, later removing it to reveal the song's title, I'll Bite Your Face Off.
The show featured Cooper's most famous bits: a festishistic infatuation with a life-sized doll, a giant monster that roamed the stage during Feed My Frankenstein and a mock beheading, as well as his 1972 hit School's Out, which now segues into Pink Floyd's Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 2. But perhaps the most shocking part of the set came at the very end: A heavy-metal cover of Lady Gaga's Born This Way, which turns out to be a perfect song for Alice.
