Subtlety has never been among Dropkick Murphys' virtues, but its latest album finds the band serving its brew of punk energy, Celtic textures and arena-rock bravado with a particularly heavy hand. By turns raucous and romantic, these big, brash tunes should at least rally the faithful. - Gardner

This muddled rock opera vacillates from formulaic doom-rockers to incoherent spoken interludes with a few sizzling spots of brooding menace. It might be better had the band members applied as much energy to their sound as they do to their looks. - Gundersen
