Nick Stumpf likes singing; satay
I go to the Bait & Tackle a lot because it’s right next to where I live. I’m in Red Hook and it’s hard to get around, so I haven’t been out in Manhattan in a while. The band is somewhat domestic when we’re home and not on tour.
What’s a night at the Bait & Tackle like?
Usually there are about six people in there. The music is really great and the volume is perfect. It’s cheap and really comfortable.
What do they play?
The bartenders sort of DJ and I’ve never heard a bad record in there. It’s a lot of older stuff. Sometimes it’ll be trashy punk rock records, sometimes an old reggae record. The kind of music you get from people who have a great record collection.
What's your drink of choice?
I usually drink Schaefer, which is the shittiest beer. Sometimes I’ll have some whiskey.
Since the Bait & Tackle doesn’t serve food, where do you go to eat?
There’s a restaurant in the neighborhood called The Good Fork. It’s run by a couple. It has classic stuff like roast chicken with mashed potatoes and modern Asian fusion fare. It’s very comfortable place. The Maitre d’ is super cool. My girlfriend works at Frankie’s on Court Street. The vibe there is great. It’s not super-expensive and food is really good. It’s classic Italian food where there are three or four ingredients in each thing, like ravioli with sage sauce. They also have a spicy hot chocolate with some sort of booze in it that’s delicious.
