Ruby Isle
You'd think Dan Geller had enough on his plate. As half of the dancey synth-pop duo I Am the World Trade Center, co-founder of the newly revived record label Kindercore (which also now represents all manner of visual artists in addition to bands), and a biofuels research engineer, Gellar was leading a pretty full life. Apparently not full enough, though, as the indie world recently discovered the existence of Ruby Isle, a cute little electropop band whose bloopy cover of Sonic Youth's "Teenage Riot" has been making the blog rounds.

Ruby Isle is a collaboration with Mark Mallman, a Minneapolis-based glam-rock piano man. The pair met in high school and began engaging in the time honored music-nerd practice of exchanging mix tapes. Many blue moons later, the two have merged their disparate styles with that of a punk-rock drummer and unleashed the "Into the Black" EP, which feels a little like a novelty project, but oh what a feeling it is! One listen to the pulsating "Atom Bombs" is all it takes to get hooked on their high-energy take on electropop (emphasis on the pop). Word is another EP is dropping in the spring, and some additional crazy covers could be hitting the web waves shortly.
