Is it just me, or are more artists paying special attention to their music videos?
Just in the last few days I've watched several funny, innovative and/or especially bizarre clips from a variety of bands. Below are a few of my favorites, and feel free to add your own picks in the comments:
Bob Mould, Star Machine - Our beloved Bob teams with Delocated's Jon Glaser for this funny clip, which shows a "Bring Your Kids to Work Day" gone wrong. (I agree Gatorade should make a Bloody Mary flavor!) The track comes from Bob's latest album, the rockin' Silver Age.
Minus the Bear, Listing - The trippy animation in this video reminds me of Ron Rege's work, but it's done by the folks at Six Point Harness. The song comes from the band's latest, Infinity Overhead, and you'll have to click the link to watch, 'cause I can't embed it.
Whispertown, Open the Other Eye - I really adore this track from the band's recent record, Parallel. The video manages to be just as captivating, with a collage of found footage that includes images of aliens, third eyes and assorted oddities.
Animal Collective, Applesauce - Finally, this one has gotten some hateful YouTube comments, but I like how deliciously minimal it is. The link was sent to me with the note that "it is intended to be viewed in complete darkness for maximum effect." It's inspired by the 1968 experimental short N:O:T:H:I:N:G, and the song can be found on AC's Centipede Hz.
