Yesterday I sparked some discussion on Twitter when I wrote that Stevie Nicks has the all-time greatest female voice in rock 'n' roll.

A bunch of you tweeted your thoughts on the issue, wondering if I'd forgotten folks like Joan Jett and Tina Turner.

For the record, below is my top 10 list of the women I think possess rock's best pipes. I'm fully expecting you to disagree!

By the way, my criteria are that the picks have to be based on voice alone (not persona, which rules out someone like Courtney Love) and they have to be a rock singer (which rules out pop star Madonna, soul queen Aretha and pop/soul legend Dusty Sprinfield).

The list:

1. Stevie Nicks.

2. Patti Smith.

3. Tina Turner.

4. Janis Joplin.

5. Chrissie Hynde.

6. Debbie Harry.

7. Ann Wilson.

8. Ronnie Spector.

9. Joan Jett.

10. Bjork.

Honorable mentions, in no particular order, go to Grace Slick, PJ Harvey, Neko Case, Kate Pierson, Kim Gordon, Cass Elliot and Liz Phair.

So who did I omit? Holler back ...
