With the recent (and much-mourned) deaths of CBGB and The Continental, Don Hills remains one of the last remaining classic NYC mid-sized rock halls—hosting emerging indies, cock-rock dinosaurs and the weekly Saturday party Misshapes on a cleverly patchworked monthly bill. Gaining entry on Saturdays can be difficult, so arrive at 10 p.m. on the nose and be greeted by an empty club and free flavored vodka (not the worst penalty for showing up unfashionably early.) Stay late to catch the likes of Jarvis Cocker, Damon Albarn and Andrew WK play a set. Stay later for a surprise performance or an unsurprising hangover in the morning.
