America's favorite singing surfer boasts a hokey, homespun fusion of Sublime and James Taylor that might not appeal to everyone. But you'd be one cold, cold bastard if you didn't feel a fraction of the groove during Johnson's festival closing set. In between his flighty between-song banter, which saw him dedicate songs to a young girl sitting on her father's shoulders in the crowd and the stars in the sky, Johnson breezed through a two-hour set highlighted by a special guest appearance by Trey Anastasio, who sat in on guitar during "Muddfootball" off Jack's debut "Brushfire Fairytales." —Ron Hart
