August 1: St. Vincent
Credit:Ryan Muir
It’s tough to tell on her 2007 debut “Marry Me,” but St. Vincent (a.k.a. Annie Clark) knows how to rawk a show. While on record—and a glorious record it is—she may come across as a delicate flower, her live sets utilize heavier rhythms and way more guitar than you’d expect from the singer-songwriter. Our personal highlight: Clark’s feedback-heavy interpretation of The Beatles’ “Dig a Pony.” On the upcoming “Actor,” Clark’s sophomore release, the singer plays bass, guitar and keys herself, so we’re curious to see what the hell her band’s gonna do.
