August 1: Tool
Credit:Tim Cadiente
Last time we caught Tool, they were putting to shame all other rock acts on Coachella’s bill with their fierce, exhilarating live set. Often dismissed by naysayers as “just another hard rock band,” the prog- and jazz-inspired group showcases the highly technical musical ability of each member, with a live show exemplifying the band’s warped sense of humor. After a yearlong hiatus, which saw frontman Maynard James Keenan put aside the band in favor of promoting his vineyard, the group returns to hit the festival circuit this year.
