Q&A: Wye Oak
October 25, 2008
Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack
Is it true you named your band after your state tree?
Jenn: Yeah, kind of. The Wye Oak was the oldest and largest oak tree in the world and it was in Talbot County, Maryland.
Andy: It was very large and stately and then it got knocked over in a storm and now it's just a stump. You can read into that whatever kind of metaphor you like.
Jenn: Mostly it's just a shout out to our home state, Maryland, which we love.
Andy: We call it "little America."
Jenn: It's got everything: Mountains, prairie, shoreline.
Andy: Visit Maryland!
Jenn: You'd think the tourism board was paying us.
