Rival Schools
Ian Love, Walter Schreifels, Sam Siegler, Cache Tolman
Ever play at CMJ?
Siegler: We did with Cave-In at Brownie's.
Schreifels: Really? I don't remember that.
Tolman: I think we just went to it.
Schreifels: It obviously left an impression.
What are your plans for the week?
Schreifels: I'm doing a panel this year: "Innovators and Pioneers of Indie Rock."
Do you have any CMJ memories of bands you saw?
Siegler: I saw Stereolab at Wetlands, that was awesome. But getting into shows usually breaks your spirits...there are long lines, it's hectic, sometimes you have the wrong badge....
Tolman: I saw Jane's Addiction at CMJ. But then again, I could just be making that up.
Why, after five years or so and one album, did you reform?
Siegler: Economic crisis, man.
Schreifels: Yeah, we had a lot of money tied up in those bundled mortgages.
Walter, you've reformed Gorilla Biscuits and now Rival Schools. How about Quicksand? Please?
Schreifels: That one isn't going to happen. We did a tour after we broke up years ago, and it was no fun. Well, the New York show with the Deftones was fun, but the rest, not so much.
