Broadcast plays a rare NYC show at Le Poisson Rouge
October 20, 2009
Just like that CMJ officially kicked off on a beautifully balmy Tuesday. We weren’t that hungover from the opening party and were pretty damn optimistic. For what? Broadcast for one. Broadcast can do no wrong, or can they? SEE SHOWCASE REVIEWS.
We started with the Music Slut/Sneak Attack Media party at Piano’s where we caught Home Video, The Love Language, Frenchkiss Record’s Sean Bones and show stealer Javelin, among others. Down the street at Cake Shop, Pop Tarts Suck Toasted hosted Motel Motel, Grooms and early (and often) buzzed Surfer Blood. After a pit stop at the Limewire offices, we hit Mercury Lounge for LA lady trio Warpaint. Though energy was mononucleosis low, our crystal ball says watch out. The songs are there. We closed the night with a capacity crowd at Le Poisson Rouge. On the day Atlas Sound dropped their anticipated 2nd album, frontman Bradford Cox did not disappoint the fan girls and boys with a lengthy set. Broadcast followed with a relatively brief, washy, technically difficult set. Or were those technical difficulties? We’re still scratching our heads.
