These sons of a preacher man have finally shaken off the "Southern Strokes" tag that followed them around the time of their debut album five years ago. After extended stints supporting big guns like U2 and Pearl Jam, the Kings have put out an ambitious, moody fourth album "Only By The Night," a ferocious collection that expands their sound to include bits of post-punk, Pixies-esque squall, even some dance-party funk. Much of the new material was played at this U.S. tour kickoff at Webster Hall. With The Whigs.
