MGMT | Celebrate Brooklyn! Prospect Park Bandshell

With Suckers and Kuroma

Amazing weather (somehow) and troublesome beer lines (more on that in a minute) greeted MGMT fans during the group's triumphant hometown show at Prospect Park. First the good news: there might not be a better venue to see a band in New York than the Bandshell at Prospect—perfect sightlines, crystal clear sound, the faint smell of skunkweed permeating the air and calming nature (trees!) all around. A shame, then, that the venue ran out of beer 40 minutes before the show's end; it was maybe the first time red wine become the drink du jour at a rock show. Thankfully, the lack of beer was the night's only misstep—well, one of two, if the mellow, jammy nature of MGMT's new stuff proved worrisome. That said, the band sounded pristine, the LED backgrounds were cool, and the hits ("Kids," "Electric Feel,""Time to Pretend") got the crowd moving. With Suckers and Kuroma.
