Morrissey
March 25, 2009
Mr. Melancholy. The Sultan of Sad. The wittiest Brit since Wilde. Whatever you call him, Morrissey—former frontman for ‘80s jangle-pop stalwarts the Smiths—struck out on his own some 20 years ago. His solo career has been a touch uneven, but punctuated by plenty of lyrical and vocal brilliance, thankfully continued on his recent LP, “Years of Refusal.” An icon for many and still in fine form, Moz croons plaintive and/or funny, sometimes vicious tunes about English lasses, charming men, hypocrisy and loneliness among friends. With The Courteeners.
