August 14: School of Seven Bells | South Street Seaport | FREE!
Brooklyn's School of Seven Bells was formed when Secret Machines guitarist Ben Curtis fell for his band's opening act, On! Air! Liberty! on a 2004 tour. He soon splintered from TSM to form the more non-linear, art rock Bells and all parties seem to be happy. Instead of Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd as a root, School of Seven Bells' debut album, "Alpinisms," is influenced by more modern sounds, ranging from the shoegaze of My Bloody Valentine to world music to the dream pop of Cocteau Twins.
