A return to 1994 with The Jesus Lizard, JonBenét Ramsey and flannel
October 31, 2009
Vice Magazine celebrated 15 years (what?) with a blowout party in Williamsburg. It was Halloween too, so everybody dressed up like it was 1994—or like a piece of pop culture ephemera from the year of the mag’s launch (Nancy Kerrigan, JonBenét Ramsey, Wayne and Garth were all represented). Some people didn’t dress up, but wore flannel, which is both 1994 and 2009 at once. Those people were smart. Bad Brains and The Jesus Lizard played aggressive sets, which made a lot of people happy. It wasn’t really party party music per say. But Vice isn’t really a typical magazine with parties featuring party party music. Titus Andronicus played (as Weezer) and Dave 1 from Chromeo dressed up as a club DJ, filling in the gaps nicely.
