The Market Hotel
- Neighborhood: Bushwick
- 1142 Myrtle Ave.
- New York, NY 11221
At first glance this is just another loft: home and workspace to eight kids in a semi-sketchy part of Brooklyn, occasionally used for shows. But the space also known as the Harket Motel—nestled in an old building with a cast-iron facade that once housed a Dominican speakeasy—has also hosted a high caliber of artists that can (and do) play more established venues, like Deerhunter, No Age and Dan Deacon. That young, sweaty, anything-is-possible vibe is in full effect here, though we can't necessarily say the same for the air conditioning. The venue is BYOB, but don't drink it outside—the less unwanted attention attracted, the better.
