Power Douglas
Just because Digable Planets DJ King Britt signed them, don’t think this avant-garde noisy quartet is anything like the jazz-rap pioneers. On “Guillotine Mogul Wound,” vocalist Furor Thin rocks spoken-word rap that’s more Anticon emcee than Gil Scott-Heron, while the band lay down a dark, warped, cyber-funk groove. But it’s “Pangea,” with its propulsive rhythm, furious bass and vocal help from TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe, that will help spread the band’s good name. Bonus points for claiming “Gentrified, NY” as their location on MySpace.
