Movie disasters
Credit:Mariah: Bruce Macaulay/Columbia Pictures; Madonna: Daniel Smith/Screen Gems
In this corner, we have “Glitter,” the 2001 film and accompanying
soundtrack album that were so poorly received, Virgin Records actually
dropped Mariah Carey’s recording contract, losing $28 million in the
process. And over here, we have “Swept Away,” the 2002 “comedy”
directed by Madonna’s husband, Guy Ritchie, that got such viciously
negative reviews, Madonna vowed never to act in a feature film again
(so far, it’s a promise she’s kept).
Advantage: Mariah.
As bad as “Glitter” was, it only received one Golden Raspberry Award
(for “Worst Actress”); “Swept Away” won five. Ouch.
