Emotional music fans, full of sadness, anger and Brooklyn Lager, recall their favorite Pool shows ever
August 30, 2008
When the 6,800 person McCarren Park Pool originally opened in 1936, it was considered by many Williamsburg and Greenpoint residents to be the ‘hood's main social hub. When the Pool reopened in 2005, after 20-plus years of rot and decay, the venue's social-hub status quickly returned, with concerts, movies and theater replacing water in the crumbling basin.
In 2012, water makes a contentious return as part of a $50 million renovation that has in effect shuttered Brooklyn's most-loved performance venue. We caught up with fans during Sonic Youth's closing performance. Wolf Eyes, Times New Viking and Vivian Girls opened. —Matt Rodbard

where else are we going to hear new/used/live music in Brooklyn? The outdoor venue is real and how is a pool going to feed our soul? cheryl
