Xray Eyeballs
Happy 420 Day, dudes! We discovered that the best way to celebrate 420 Day was to attend a party at Secret Project Robot in Williamsburg, which is exactly the kind of place that people outside of NYC imagine the Brooklyn art-rock scene to be. With signs up like, "Don't Bring Jerks Who Hate Art" to discourage the haters—and a table covered in bags of Doritos and cake frosting to fend off the munchies—art-metal rockers Knyfe Hyts hosted the party. The highlight of the night for us was finally getting a chance to see Xray Eyeballs up close and personal. Ever since we caught their latest gruesomely funny, voodoo NSFW video for the single "Crystal," we've been dying to catch these guys live. They've got that classic echo-chamber garage rock sound, but at times it sounds like they've built a layer on top of that '50's proto-punk scuzz, and are playing through a sound filter at a psychedelic prom in the '80's where John Hughes is wandering around with his camera. K-Holes were impressive and charismatic. Openers Fuckton brought the party from nearby Death By Audio, and shopping cart DJ duo Dub Know Dub added a touch of burner class.
