Latest Release: “Curtis Lane” (Filter Records)
Who: Former Philadelphia choirboy Pat Grossi has since relocated to L.A. and been making waves thanks to a well-received debut EP that mixes ethereal vocals a la Bon Iver's Justin Vernon into gauzey layers of electronic bleeps and beats.
What they’re saying: "There were handfuls (and handfuls) of cassette-friendly one-man atmospheric electro-pop (i.e. chillwave) bands this year, but L.A.’s Pat Grossi and his icy backdrops and icier falsetto—a new wave Owen Pallett/Ed Droste combo fronting Washed Out—bubbled easily to the surface as someone to watch when he decided to leave the bedroom behind.'" – Stereogum.com
What we’re saying: It's easy to hear Grossi's background as a choirboy in his one-man-band, especially given his capable falsetto and use of heavenly sounding harps. But his range is impressively varied, as on the moody shoegaze of "She Was a Vision" or the standout, "Wilderness," which makes excellent use of its bumpy-thumpy, Björk-esque beat. – Jessica Jardine
